CHALETS AURORE Wooden Cottages - Plaine des Cafres
Before getting to the viewpoint of Grand Bassin in Bois Court, on your right opposite the school, for sure you will notice a large wooden chalet. If you do not drive by too fast you will see two small slate-covered chalets at the bottom of the garden. On over 2300 sqm of natural grass (pride of the gardener!), these three wooden buildings are the CHALETS AURORE.
Les Chalets Aurore
The structure Les Chalets Aurore is located at an altitude of 1380 meters (4600 feet).
The two small cottages are fully equipped and heated in Austral winter. Each one can accommodate a couple with one or two young children who can sleep on the mezzanine.
In the large chalet, two guest rooms located on the ground floor with private bathrooms and toilets are rented by the night :
- 1 bedroom for 4 people
- 1 double bedroom in which we can add 1 sleeping.
Please note: rooms will not be rented from 16 July 2019.

By car, you can reach St Pierre in 35 minutes, St Benoît in 45 minutes by the Bellevue Pass and it’ll take you about 1 hour to drive up to the volcano.
You can walk directly down to Grand Bassin but the most courageous athletes can also walk up to the Piton des Neiges (3070 m, 10 000 feet) via Mare à Boue, Piton Tortue, the Bois Chansons Cave and the Coteau Kerveguen.
Of course, other hikes are easier such as the botanical trail of Our Lady of Peace with views over the Rivière des Remparts, but you should leave "grand matin" (early morning) if you want to enjoy the best sunlight.
Three kilometers away, in the village of La Plaine des Cafres (“23rd km”) you will find all the "modern conveniences" : the local Town Hall, the fire station, the police station, the post office, a bank, doctors, drug stores, food stores, hardware store, church…

A few miles away you can enjoy regional specialties in several restaurants (among the best in the region) as La Ferme du Pêcher Gourmand, le Vieux Bardeau, le Relais Commerson , le Q.G., le Tiresto Lontan, etc…
