When thinking of coming to Reunion Island, you think of seaside beaches ... that's one of the reasons you came here after all!
Have you ever experienced, within one day, a chilly awakening amidst the towering walls of a mountainous cirque, and a lazy afternoon in the iodized sun of the beach? In Reunion, this contrasting experience is possible ... and lovely! After the efforts of a hike, you will deserve the caress of the white or black sand, and you'll delight in observing the underwater flora and fauna on one of the 17 beaches open for swimming on the west and south coasts of the island.
Beaches in the "open ocean" or along the lagoon, "in the city" or along a wilder coastline, white sand or black sand beaches, seawater pools .. there is something for everyone!
Families with young children may prefer the beaches facing the lagoon, protected by the coral reef; here, no "big fish", shallow swimming areas and many portions patrolled by lifeguards present at the emergency stations. In the shade of casuarinas, you can look after your offspring on the sand and in the water (sunscreen, rash vest and shoes recommended), or take time for yourself by entrusting them to an approved beach club which will take care of them for a few hours.
For an "adventure" family expedition, embark everyone in transparent kayaks, ideal for exploring the coral fauna, the small tropical fish and corals that unfold before your eyes without risking of breaking this fragile ecosystem. Or you can just go for the classic paddle boat that will allow parents to find their inner child.
To enjoy the Creole atmosphere of the traditional weekend picnics, do not hesitate to bring your snacks under the palmtrees of the beach of Grande Anse or the casuarinas of the beach in l'Ermitage les Bains. Typical and highly recommended!
