Since 2014 it has been possible to stay in the Ilet Cimendal, also known as Ilet Cerneau, just minutes north of New Mafate.
Marie-Hélène Cernot, whose ancestors settled there in the early twentieth century, has decided to open the Gite Cimendal, and offer a table d’hote.
At the end of the plateau of La Nouvelle, walkers from the village will walk between 15 and 30 minutes to reach the pretty hamlet of Ilet Cimendal, named after a chief of runaway slaves who sought refuge in this spot.
Ms. Cernot reserves walkers a warm welcome in her gite and her meticulously maintained garden.
2 wooden bungalows accommodate between 5 and 8 people.
Bungalow 1 (5 places):
• 1 triple bed (double bed + single bunk bed)
• 2 bunk beds
• A cot
Bungalow 2 (8 places):
• 8 bunk beds
Possibility to pitch your tent.
Each bungalow has a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink, and a small veranda for a warm and invigorating welcome.
Another bungalow is dedicated to the table d’hote. Local cuisine is made from home-grown vegetables and poultry (ducks, roosters, chickens ...).
